Hoang Su Phi District is located in the Northeast Vietnam and is the pleasant contrast to the rocky plateau of Dong Văn, Meo Vac and Yen Minh in Hà Giang. There are several times to visit Hoang Su Phi in order to catch the rice crop. The cycle of the rice crop starts from May or depends on the rainy season of this year. At this time, you can see many local peoples working in their farm to prepare the fields and plant the young rice. After 2 months, the rice is growing, you can see the green color in each paddy fields. From September to October, the area is at its most stunning, with the golden rice fields in the harvest season, full of color.

If you happen to find yourself visiting this area over a weekend, join the local Hmong, Red Zao, Nung and Tay ethnic minorities at the Sunday market, watching them haggle for cattle on the banks of the Chay River.

Travel from Hanoi to Nam Ai

In the first day, you will spend at least 7-8 hours traveling from Hanoi to Hoang Su Phi district (including about 250km highway road and 60 km high mountain pass). You should prepare your health before the hard travel but so amazing

Warmly welcome to Nam Ai village. At this village, you will see old tea plant (more than 100 years old) with buds have white hairs, it is called shan tea – a famous tea in Vietnam. And enjoy fresh tea in here – this is also a welcome drink of the local people. In addition, Nam Ai village is the village of Long-tunics Dao family, it remains many traditional cultures.

Trekking from Nam Ai – Seo Phin – Ho Thau

Getting up early to welcome the awesome day and having breakfast, enjoy the fresh atmosphere. However, you should remember that it is cold in the evening and the morning, so put on your warm clothes.

Say goodbye the host and Nam Ai, downhill to Nam Son and visit the local life of a small town in the Northeast Vietnam. After that, you will leave this town via a suspension bridge, pass up the mountainside to a small Hmong village which is located in the high mountain. You will have 2 hours for lunch and the short break with local in their house

On the winding trails, you will see the daily labor of local people like picking up tea, growing the agricultural plants. The main local people are the groups of Dao, Nung, Flower H’mong.

Come to Nung ethnic homestay, you will have time to discover their culture. The Nùng reside primarily in the northern Vietnamese provinces and is the main ethnic minority of Hoang Su Phi, Ha Giang. The Nung in Hoang Su Phi supports themselves via agriculture activities, such as tending rice paddies, farming on terraced hillsides as well as growing orchard products.

On the one hand, they produce rice, maize, tangerines, persimmons, and anise. On the other hand, they are also known for their handicrafts, making items from bamboo and rattan, as well as weaving.

The special culture of them when drinking alcohol, partakers cross hands and drink from the opposite glass to demonstrate trust. Fairy tales, folk music, and adherence to tradition and ethnic identity are strong characteristics of Nùng people.

Trekking from Ho Thau, uphill Ban Luoc Heaven Gate – Suoi Thau

Before say goodbye the host, you will prepare the luggage and have breakfast with local food like “xoi”, “soup”. You will hike about 5 hours – 6 hours until reaching Suoi Thau village.

Following the itinerary, you will cross stream, waterfall, bamboo forests, pass to Ban Luoc Heaven-gate, and beautiful rice terraces. You will have 2 hours for lunchtime and short rest at the house of Man Ta Pan ethnic group. Continue to trekking to Suoi Thau Village – which is located between the largest terraced rice field in Hoang Su Phi. You will meet many Long Tunics Dao people.

Long Tunics Dao people is one of some main ethnic minorities in Hoang Su Phi, they live in some places like Suoi Thau, San Sa Ho…, people recognize them by the custom, culture…
